Music Theory: Key Signatures

This is the last of four music theory lessons for Organ Performance Level 2, which should be completed in order. It may be studied concurrently with a registration lesson and a played assignment. Its concepts will be covered in the final review.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Recite and write on the treble and bass staves the proper order of sharps and flats.
  2. Recognize all major and minor key signatures and write them on the treble and bass staves.
  3. Construct a major and minor circle of fifths.
  4. It is recommended that you complete Played Assignment 2 after finishing this lesson.

Reading Assignment

Basic Materials in Music Theory

Study chapter 10, “Key Signatures,” with the goal of internalizing each concept thoroughly. Study first, then work the mastery frames and supplementary assignments as needed.
