Music Theory: The Minor Scales

This is the third of four music theory lessons for Organ Performance Level 2, which should be completed in order. It may be studied concurrently with a registration lesson and a played assignment. Its concepts will be covered in the final review.

  1. Identify the three forms of the minor scale and describe their construction.
  2. Write the three forms of the minor scale from any pitch.
  3. Explain the concepts of relative minor and relative major.

Reading Assignment

Basic Materials in Music Theory

Study chapter 9, “The Minor Scales,” with the goal of internalizing each concept thoroughly. Study first, then work the mastery frames and supplementary assignments as needed.
