To be heard as two distinct tones at the organ, adjacent repeated notes in any line must be separated. The amount of time taken between them will either preserve or disrupt the sense of line.
If ABOUT THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF TIME (silence) is taken between repeated notes (that is, if the release of the first note is timed properly), then the legato line will feel natural and musical.
If TOO LITTLE TIME (silence) is taken, (that is, if the release is too late and the rest is too short), then the two notes will seem indistinct and the line will be unclear.
If TOO MUCH TIME (silence) is taken (that is, if the release of the first note is too early and the rest is too long), then the legato line will seem broken and mechanical.
