Organ Division Types
Each manual or pedal keyboard controls one or more divisions of pipework. A single division or even an entire organ can appear in one of several forms or types:
ENCLOSED
The pipes are contained in an expression box (also called a “swell
box”).
ENCASED
The pipes are contained in a case (usually wooden) that is open
only in the front.
EXPOSED
The pipes are neither encased nor enclosed, but are “exposed” in
the room.
