The meditative text of this hymn calls for a gentle yet supportive registrational plan. The solo must still lead the congregation, but cannot be as triumphant sounding as in a jubilant hymn. Reed tone at 8' or 16' pitch (or both) is possible, but 4' reed tone may be too bright for this hymn. If a 16' reed stop is unavailable, you can play an 8' reed down an octave. If reed tone is not desired, principal stops (possibly with other flue stops added) at 8', 4', (2 2/3') and 2' pitches can serve as a fine solo. This can also be played down an octave to good effect.
The accompaniment must be supportive, yet not overpower the solo. A principal 8' or other supportive 8' foundations are a must, plus either a principal or a flute at 4' pitch. Other flues at 8' and 4' pitch may be added. Stops (especially principals) at 2' pitch tend to dominate.
