USING CELESTES EFFECTIVELY

• Celestes are effective in SOFT PASSAGES with both hands on the same manual.
• They can also be used in one hand as a SOFT ACCOMPANIMENT against a gentle solo stop or combination in the other hand on another manual.
• When a registration indication specifies “STRINGS,” a celeste effect is often intended.
• While string celestes are most common, hybrid and FLUTE CELESTES appear frequently.
• It is wise to AVOID OVERUSING celestes.

AVOID using celestes under these circumstances:

• LARGER registrational combinations
• CONGREGATIONAL ACCOMPANIMENT
• TOO FREQUENTLY (avoid overusing celestes)
