Sharps

2. TOES: TIP (ROCK) THE FOOT INWARD AND PLAY ON THE INSIDE OF THE FOOT just forward of the ball.

This makes the playing surface of the foot smaller, reducing the chance of error. It is virtually impossible to play two keys at the same time when the foot is tipped inward.

Try the following demonstration. With the toe of the right foot play two sharps at the same time. While playing the two keys rock the foot towards the inside. The key under the little toe will stop playing as the outside of the foot raises about one-half inch.

This may at first be uncomfortable as the muscles that run along the outside of the ankles are called into action. But they will strengthen with practice, and you will enjoy greater accuracy and security. This discomfort is minimized when the knees are brought together.
