10. EMPHASIZE THE USE OF ALTERNATE TOES BETWEEN TWO FEET

Emphasize alternate toes rather than the toe of one and the heel of another or two heels. This allows for heel-to-heel or heel-to-arch contact between the feet, increasing security. However, frequently the appearance of sharps, which must be played by the toe, requires that the preceding naturals be played by the heel.

In spite of this recommendation, sometimes the economy of motion of the single foot or other factors may override the benefit of maintaining constant contact between the two feet.
