Practice Plan

In the following musical example all three parts are played together up to tempo.

Notice that breaks between repeated notes are smaller than the eighth rest described previously. They are modified slightly for the sake of the musical line. The first note of a pair of repeated notes is slightly longer, and the break between them is slightly shorter.

Although this sort of modification results in a smoother, more natural flow in the musical line, you are not required to apply it in Hymn Projects 2 or 3. It is easy to lose precision and independence when attempting to take this step. If this happens, revert to precise eighth rests, and wait to implement this and other fine points of musical expression until you are more at ease with playing three parts with complete independence.
