The Term “Chorus”
In singing, “chorus” refers to a group of VOICES that
blend together. In organ playing, “chorus” registration
refers to the two or more PARTS that are heard as an ensemble or
as equals; that is, the parts (see green highlights) sound the same
stop combination.
Although we will be comparing a vocal chorus with chorus-type registration throughout this lesson, the word “chorus” in the context of organ registration does NOT refer directly to accompanying a “chorus” at the organ. Instead, it refers to THE EQUALITY OF THE PARTS, as mentioned above.
If two or more parts are to sound the same stops, they are almost always played on the same manual.
