General Pistons

General Combination Pistons (“Generals”) set and recall combinations of stops on ALL divisions of the organ. If the console contains only one numbered set of thumb pistons, they will be general, not local, pistons. If there is more than one set, the generals are usually located underneath the manuals to the far left, whereas the locals will be centered. General pistons are more common than local pistons.

Now recall the Great and Pedal Principal stops already mentioned either by hand or by using the Great local and Pedal local pistons you set earlier. Next add a Swell chorus:

• Bourdon 8' (or another stop marked 8')
• Octave 4' (or another stop marked 4')
• Flûte a Bec 2' (or another stop marked 2')

Set the stops of all three divisions on general piston 5. Now cancel, then press general 5 to recall them
