A toe stud may be thought of as “a thumb piston for the feet.” If the hands are too busy to reach a piston, there may be a duplicate toe stud that can be pressed by a foot.
The most common toe stud is probably the Great to Pedal reversible, located often to the right side of the crescendo pedal or of the right-most expression pedal. Another common toe stud is the Tutti or Sforzando reversible, located to the extreme right side of the pedal board. It is also common that at least some of the general pistons are duplicated on general toe studs. Pedal locals often appear ONLY in the form of toe studs.
Press general piston 5, then note which stops appear. Cancel, then press the TOE STUD GENERAL 5. Since these are duplicates of one another, the same combination should appear.
