Playing on Great and Pedal

Pull a full chorus of stops on the Great:

  • Principal 8' (or another stop marked 8')
  • Octave 4' (or another stop marked 4')
  • Super Octave 2' (or another stop marked 2')

Pull a complementary chorus of Pedal stops:

  • Principal 16' (or another stop marked 16')
  • Octave 8' (or another stop marked 8')
  • Choral Bass 4' (or another stop marked 4')

While playing a chord on the Great, close and open the expression pedal directly over the center-most pedal notes E and F. Do you hear a volume change? If not, the volume of the Great is not controlled by that pedal. If there is no other expression pedal, the Great is exposed.

Now repeat this procedure while playing a pedal note. If its volume remains unchanged, the Pedal division is also exposed.
