All of the examples that follow are suitable for solo and accompaniment registration. If you wish to study the process of determining this suitability, see the lesson, “Three Primary Types of Organ Registration.”
The ideas set forth in these examples are only suggestions. There are many other appropriate possibilities. In each example, we seek for an appropriate range of registrational possibility as we deal with the following considerations:
Regarding the SOLO,
- what is its written range?
- what should be its pitch foundation?
- at what volume level should it sound?
- what should be the timbre of the solo?
Regarding the ACCOMPANIMENT,
- how much contrast in volume should there be between solo and accompaniment?
- how much contrast in timbre?
