Private Lessons, Individual Consultations and Supervised Practice

Those interested in these options should pay for them at the time of registration, or add them later through the registration website. Scheduling will take place mid-July. Those who are registered for one of the options will receive an email when scheduling is available.

  • (in-person and online) (limit of two per person)

Private Instruction sessions are one-on-one organ lessons with your choice of instructor — an excellent opportunity to receive help in hymn playing, organ pieces, BYU Independent Study organ course requirements, or any area of organ performance. Play hymns and/or organ repertoire that you have prepared for the instructor, who will comment on your preparation and provide guidance for further study. You will have 10 minutes of practice time on the organ before your lesson begins.

Youth under the age of 18 must have another adult attend the private lesson with them.
  • (in-person only) (limit of one per person)

Unsure about your level of organ ability? Find out by attending a 15-minute session with an instructor on Monday afternoon. Play a well-prepared hymn and/or piece from organ literature, and the instructor will recommend the organ instruction level that is appropriate for you. Individual Consultations are only available on Monday afternoon during the workshop.

Youth under the age of 18 must have another adult attend the consultation with them.
  • (in-person only) (limit of one per person)

During Supervised Practice, you may practice on any of the 12 digital organs in the organ lab. Four of the organs are reserved for the 10-minute supervised practice sessions. The other eight organs are open for practice or online study without supervision on a first-come, first-served basis. This is an excellent time for hands-on training. You might also consider bringing a copy of the stoplist of your organ to get a few registration tips from the instructor. There is no charge for Supervised Practice.
