Get Motivated

The first phase or task in learning a piece at the organ is to get motivated by it. You will accomplish much more in much less time if you feel a drive from within yourself to learn it. The seed that can grow into that drive may appear in many forms:

• You HEAR THE PIECE in recital or on a recording (and are inspired right away)
• You PLAY THROUGH IT (and it looks interesting to you)
• Your TEACHER FINDS IT for you (and you accept it as a personal challenge)
• You MUST PLAY IT for church or a program (and it may or may not inspire you)
