WORK YOUR PLAN

3. Work Your Plan

Once you feel the motivation to learn a piece and after you have planned a strategy to learn it, you are ready to put your plan into action--to “work your plan.” This involves two ideas: WORK and PLAN.

Working a plan is not just working--if you think you are working (practicing) but are not following a plan, you could just be “playing.” Playing has its place, but it will not help you to learn new pieces that are beyond your sight-reading level.

By the same token, working a plan is not just planning. The plan has to be put to work, or it is worth very little.
