WORK YOUR PLAN

REWARD YOURSELF

Everyone benefits from a good reward system. Set up small rewards for achieving short-term goals (spending thirty minutes on scales and arpeggios might be a short-term goal), medium-size rewards for achieving medium-term goals (playing a fugue exposition six times perfectly at three-quarters tempo might be a medium-term goal), or large rewards for achieving long-range goals (playing a chorale prelude well without stopping, memorized, might be a long-range goal).

Rewards work wonders for one's attitude towards practice. Ideas for small, medium, and large rewards can be food for creative thought. It is such a personal matter, however, that one can hardly suggest a system. A few ideas follow on the next screen.
