KEEP A RECORD (continued)

The particular form of that record will vary with the individual. It may be as simple as section markers with a date and tempo indication in the margin. Others prefer to work with more complete records. Some possibilities follow:

  • a sheet for each piece with goals in the left column and progress reports in the right
  • a table upon which is recorded the time to spend on each piece during each practice session
  • a loose-leaf binder with various types of records, tailored to the needs of each piece, service, or recital
  • a word processor or database for tracking any or all of the above items
