Perfect-Measure Practice

Perfect-measure practice is particularly useful for more difficult pieces. The vertical parts are actually single measures--very small sections.

Practice a measure plus the first note(s) of the next measure slowly enough to stay in control (which may be extremely slow!). After several (six) perfect repetitions can be played in a row, work towards several more repetitions at a slightly faster tempo. Repeat this process until reaching a designated tempo.

Move to the next measure, repeating the procedure described above. After achieving that same standard on the second measure, combine the two measures. After achieving that same standard on the two measures combined, the next measure is learned.

Follow this process until a phrase or some other longer section is mastered. Record the date and tempo.
