The Freezing Technique (continued)
  • FIX the problem spot by playing within the fenced-in passage to the exact point (see X) where the problem occurs. freeze (pause) on that spot by “freezing” the hand or foot that executes the break in position up off the key while the other hand or foot continues to hold. As you freeze, feel the lightness in the hand or foot that has the break, and the heaviness in those still playing. After a moment, continue playing to the next note only, using the legato or detached connections as indicated. Repeat this procedure, freezing for slightly less time each repetition until there is no longer need for a pause. Repeat it several times in tempo, and then proceed.
