The skills required to play the organ manuals can be grouped into two main categories:

FINGERING TECHNIQUES

Various ways of fingering at the organ in order to achieve a perfect legato:

• direct fingering
• redistribution of the inner part
• finger crossing
• finger glissando
• finger substitution
• thumb glissando

INDEPENDENCE

Applying the fingering techniques as needed to achieve independence:

• between the two hands
• among the fingers of each hand
