Pressing the Sforzando (or “Tutti”) reversible toe stud or thumb piston brings on full organ by engaging all of the stops that have been determined by the organ builder. These stops are engaged without the physical operation of the stop knobs or tabs. Instead, they engage stops “blindly”.
When the piston or toe stud is pressed again, the organ is returned to the control of the stops that are physically engaged.
On some organs, more than one form of sforzando is available. “Tutti I” will bring on a different stop combination than “Tutti II.”
Click the three buttons in the example in order from left to right to hear examples. A passage is played three times: first with a small chorus registration; again after pressing the tutti reversible; and then a third time after pressing it again.
