Note that the buildup included a 2 2/3' mutation. Mutations add a certain color, gravity, or reedy quality to the ensemble. Using a 2 2/3' mutation is a step away from clarity and towards richness.
A 2 2/3' mutation should NOT be used as the highest-pitched stop of a chorus-type registration. The color that results from using the 2 2/3' stop as the highest pitch is best reserved for solo functions. In chorus registration, add the 2 2/3' stop after the 2' stop appears, as was done in the “buildup” example.
Example 1: 8' 4' and 2' stops
Example 2: 2 2/3' stop added
