Two-Manual Organ Consoles

Thumb Pistons

Each thumb piston performs a specific action when pressed. Thumb pistons are designed to be pressed by reaching the thumb underneath a manual while the other fingers remain in position over the keys.

Most two-manual consoles have a limited number of thumb pistons. As in larger organs, the Set button or "Setter" is usually located underneath and to the left of the lowest manual. The Cancel button or 'General Cancel" usually appears underneath and to the right of the lowest manual.

Even on small organs a few user-adjustable combination thumb pistons ("pre-sets") are often included, usually centered underneath one or both manuals.
