2. EYES UP
Train your mind more quickly by avoiding glancing down at the feet except for an occasional check-up for details of technique.
Develop the “reference system” techniques (knees together, heel-arch, heel-heel, gliding from key to key, the path of the individual foot, gaps for large skips) rather than depending on the eyes to locate pedal notes. (All of these are taught through the OrganTutor pedal exercises.)
There are times in performance when you might use the eyes to secure an occasional note, such as a large skip to a very important note or the last note of the piece. Even very experienced organists use the eyes occasionally in these ways. But relying on them regularly in practice will lead to much slower progress in your pedal technique.
