1. PRECISE RELEASES. Each time a note is repeated in the same part (see green highlights), or for each phrase break (yellow highlights), remove an eighth rest value from the end of the first note, releasing exactly as the rest begins. For example, the first note of the right hand, played on beat “3,” is released exactly on the “and” of “3.” To be sure of your releases throughout the exercise, count: “One-and-two-and-three-and-”
and see that the release occurs exactly on either a number or on the word “and.”

The end result will be a rather choppy-sounding line, especially when playing at a slow tempo (Example 1). This is all right for now, since we are concentrating on precision.

After you have gained the discipline to do this with ease, you might try to lengthen the note and shorten the rest slightly to improve the flow of the line (Example 2).
