Helps and Hints

REGISTRATION. The registrational plan outlined to the right is one possibility. It reflects the generally jubilant character of the hymn, and also the contrast of mood seen in the text of verse 3. (See the following screen for video examples of registration changes.)

(Hear and see examples of this registrational plan applied to “Redeemer of Israel” on the last screens of the previous topic.)

To see a basic registrational plan for meditative hymns, see "Hymn Playing Survival Skills: Registration" in the workbook.

INTRODUCTION. The introduction may be as simple as playing the first and last phrases, or you may be more creative. Either way, make a plan and then execute it well.

PHRASING. Be sure to plan for changes in phrasing from verse to verse, based on the message of the text. (See the hymn text in the Hymn Playing section of the workbook, Hymn Project 4, "Redeemer of Israel, Example of Fully-Prepared Score".)
