Large Organ Consoles

Reversible Toe Studs

Of the toe studs that duplicate the function of thumb pistons, several types appear.

The Great to Pedal reversible and Sforzando (“Tutti”) reversible are the most common toe studs of all. They are even provided on some small organ consoles.

“Reversibles,” when pressed, perform a specific built-in function (such as engaging the Great to Pedal coupler). When pressed again, that function is reversed (the Great to Pedal coupler is retired, for example).

The GREAT TO PEDAL reversible is usually found just to the right of the crescendo pedal or right-most expression pedal--within easy reach. The SFORZANDO or TUTTI reversible is placed to the extreme right--NOT easy to reach by mistake!

Other reversibles are also common among toe studs; manual to pedal reversibles such as Swell to Pedal and Choir to Pedal, and individual 32' pedal stops.
