Independence Among the Fingers of Each Hand: Two or More Parts in One Hand

Next we advance to playing more than one line in either hand. This skill is essential in playing hymns and any other organ music with three or more manual parts.

The studies begin with one part sustaining a long note while the other part moves more rapidly. Gradually the long-notes become shorter. This leads into the hymns and organ pieces, in which the two or more lines that are played by a single hand are often equally active.
