Introduction

Standards in Chorus Registration

All manual parts to be included are played on a single manual.
However, in solo and accompaniment registration the accompaniment uses chorus-type registration. The solo uses another type.

Usually build on an 8' foundation in the manual.
However, in cases requiring extra gravity, clear 16' manual stops may be used.

Usually build on a 16' foundation in the pedal.
But in cases where the pedal line is more melodic and less bass-like in character, an 8' or 4' foundation may be appropriate. Where more gravity is required, use 32' pedal stops as the foundation.

Avoid gaps in the octaves.
Build in this order: 8', 4', 2', mixture (and mutations, if desired). Do not skip any octave-sounding pitch while building upward. For example, building 8' (skipping 4') 2' and mixture creates a hollow and incomplete chorus. Sometimes, however, the 2' pitch can be omitted when building up to the mixture.
