Toe Studs

A toe stud may be thought of as “a thumb piston for the feet.” If the hands are too busy to reach a piston, there may be a duplicate toe stud that can be pressed by a foot (see video example).

Here are the most common toe studs:

• the Great to Pedal reversible, often located to the right side of the crescendo pedal or of the right-most expression pedal
• the Tutti or Sforzando reversible, located to the extreme right side of the pedal board
• at least some of the general pistons are often duplicated on general toe studs
• pedal locals often appear only in the form of toe studs

Press thumb piston general 5, noting which stops appear. Next press cancel, and then press the toe stud general 5. Since these are duplicates of one another, the same combination should appear.
