Non-Speaking Stops (continued)

The TREMULANT is another kind of non-speaking stop. Cancel, and then pull the following stop combination:

  • Great: Gedackt 8' (or another 8' flute stop)
  • Swell: Oboe 8' (or another “reedy” stop marked 8') and the Tremulant on the Swell
  • Pedal: Subbass 16' and Gedackt 8' (or other soft 16' and 8' stops)

Play a C chord on the Great in the left hand, a low C in the Pedal, and a slow C scale in the right hand on the Swell.

If only the Swell stop is affected by the tremulant, your organ has a DIVISIONAL tremulant. If all stops are affected, then the tremulant is not divisional but GENERAL, and will probably be used less frequently.
