Introduction

Trio & Solo/Accompaniment Compared

Once you have discovered that a piece has only two manual parts (see yellow highlights), and three parts total, there is still more to consider. Some pieces with only three parts can be registered with any one of the three types of organ registration: chorus, solo and accompaniment, or trio. Your choice should be based primarily on the relative prominence of the manual parts (see green highlights):

  • IF NO PART SHOULD BE PROMINENT,
    use chorus registration.
  • IF ONE PART SHOULD BE PROMINENT,
    use solo/accompaniment registration.
  • IF BOTH PARTS SHOULD BE PROMINENT,
    use trio registration.

Registration of the pedal part should be based on its intended function (blue highlights).
