Crescendo Pedal (continued)

In the video example a few stops are drawn before any keys are played. These stops are heard first. As the keys are held down and the crescendo pedal begins to open, stops are engaged “blindly”--that is, the stop knobs do not operate, but the ranks are heard entering one by one. The indicator light rises, showing that the pedal is opening. When fully open, nearly full organ is heard.

As the crescendo pedal closes, the stops retire in reverse order. The indicator light falls gradually. Only those stops that had been physically drawn earlier are heard after the pedal is fully closed.
