We are thrilled to announce the first-ever BYU Organ Alumni Conference!
Friday, October 25 through Monday, October 28, 2024
In celebration of the new four-manual Letourneau concert organ (coming this summer), we are thrilled to announce the first-ever BYU Organ Alumni Conference!
Save Friday evening, October 25 through Monday, October 28 (or optionally Tuesday the 29th) for the most important organ event ever at BYU.
Taking place in the new Music Building, the conference opens Friday evening with an exciting dedicatory recital by Daniel Cook (Master of the Choristers and Organist, Durham Cathedral, UK), including a performance with the BYU choirs. Tickets to the recital are not included with your conference registration and can be purchased through BYU Tickets.
Saturday, October 26 begins with an introduction to the new Letourneau organ by the company’s president, Andrew Forrest. Daniel Cook will then present two masterclasses. A light breakfast as well as lunch and dinner will be provided.
Individual organ playing appointments will be available throughout the day on Sunday, followed by a community hymn sing in the Concert Hall. Meals and church services will be on your own.
Monday conference events will include a history of and an update on the BYU Organ Department, presentations by notable BYU organ alums, playing opportunities on the new organ, online alumni biographies, and more. Lunch and a farewell dinner will be provided.
Additional organ playing appointments will be available on Tuesday, October 29 for those that are local or are able to stay.
Registration for the conference is $50 plus the ticket to the Daniel Cook recital (a Bravo! series event). However, the conference is offered primarily as a gift to our valued BYU organ alums, funded by the Marjorie Volkel Organ Outreach Endowment. Lunch and dinner will be provided Saturday and Monday. Travel and lodging are the responsibility of the participants.
We invite anyone to attend who has been involved with the BYU Organ Department in the following ways:
- Organ major (both those who graduated in organ and those who were organ majors for two semesters or longer)
- Non-organ major who took private organ instruction for credit
- Organ Workshop instructor
- Completed a BYU Independent Study organ course
- Others on approval (email Elena at organ@byu.edu)
